Beautiful, warm Sunday with Lizzie. Arrived at the beach and found a young man delicately balancing slabs of broken concrete in vertical columns, rusted spikes balanced on point stood at the top. I said "really nice" and moved on. The real dialogue was in what he was doing. Maybe he'd seen some of the things I'd made along this beach or maybe not, but my possible influence on him influenced me and I started my own balancing act a ways down the rocks. Thinking of arches and Marble Roller led to a viaduct connecting standing stones with phragmites straw. While making it, I kept thinking of the fragile structure of Bridge Over the River Kwai
