Painter, sculptor, filmmaker, software developer, exhibit designer, educator and tinkerer.

A realist (about some things) exploring panoramic landscapes / architectural space / deconstructed small town stories / folds of private geologies / inside vistas. I've had some solo & group shows, shifting studios from indoors to outdoors.
Building in the sand, watching as wind and waves wash away my work. I always use available materials as construction elements and tools - sometimes sand, sometimes beach debris and take my cues from tide and weather - and the supply of flotsam and jetsam.
Experiments with variations (and a media-wide shift to digital technologies) led me back to programming after a long lapse. I've done web & kiosk installations at Brooklyn Children's Museum, LICM, Milwaukee Art Museum, National Gallery of Art, National Museum of Science and Industry (London), San Francisco Exploratorium, and Science World British Columbia.
I received a National Science Foundation artist-in-residence fellowship at the San Francisco Exploratorium in the 80's, sparking my dircections towards interactive exhibit development. I'm a founder of the Long Island Children's Museum. As an outgrowth of this project, Jim Metcalfe and I formed Protozone Inc. where we conceive, design and build hands-on stuff for museums and children's hospitals.
Scrolling paintings led to scrolling time and moving space. My filmworks are in the collections of MOMA (NY) , the Met and the Pompidou Center and shown in theaters, schools and festivals around the world. I've received production grants from NEA, NYSCA and NYFA. I've produced and directed hundreds of animations for PBS science specials and CTW''s Sesame Street & 3-2-1 Contact.
